Rue Dilhe, MDThis is precisely what Exel Computer Systems PLC brings to the table. As a UK-based software author, Exel provides clear, practical advice and solutions for small, medium, and large manufacturing businesses and field service providers looking to deploy ERP, MRP, or field service software solutions. With an aim to supply companies with state-of-the-art, flexible solutions that enable them to achieve leading-edge business operability, Exel draws on its 35-year long experience in the field to empower customers with comprehensive and effective ERP software. “The longevity of Exel is key as there are not many competitors who have been around for so long. The hundreds of installations Exel has implemented and the experience of the staff with business solutions for manufacturing and field service in sales, development, implementation, and support are clearly a winning differentiator,” says Rue Dilhe, MD at Exel Computer Systems PLC. As a one-stop-shop, Exel provides clients with hosting solutions, leasing, hardware, third-party software, in-house software, and implementation and helpdesk support. Its increasingly diverse portfolio includes both on-premises and hosted solutions in the UK and around the world.
The main highlight of Exel’s product portfolio is EFACS E/8—the company’s comprehensive and flexible ERP solution. It is a highly customisable, component-based ERP software package built with the latest internet technology. Thanks to its variable component architecture, Exel’s EFACS E/8 can be easily adapted to fit the exact requirements of any business.

EFACS E/8 incorporates a wide range of modules including product management, change control, manufacturing, production planning, material requirements planning (MRP), finance, customer relationship management (CRM), field service, document management, and many more. EFACS E/8 seamlessly meets the requirements of discrete manufacturers from automotive, aerospace, and electronics companies, who have strict requirements for traceability and engineering change management. It also assists the high-volume schedule-driven component manufacturers who require lean manufacturing techniques to reduce work-in-progress and provides them with just-in-time performance. EFACS E/8 delivers improved efficiency, visibility, and organisational performance.
The uniqueness of EFACS stems from its flexibility, menu dashboards, flexible deployment, remote working, workflow, MRP workbench, and other robust features that it provides the clients with. At the core, EFACS takes advantage of the increased potential for greater business insight by allowing users to configure a menu dashboard to display pertinent reports when browsing different areas of the system. Exel’s Advanced Customisation Toolkit is a module that provides clients with the ability to customise the functionality of standard software to meet a user’s specific requirements. The technology behind this functionality ensures that future upgrades are not compromised. While the rich experience of the company makes it second to none, Dilhe also emphasises that its excellent staff retention over the years has contributed to a great depth of market and product knowledge. “We operate on-site, which allows us to be dynamic in our approach while engaging all staff and their associated knowledge and ideas. We have an independent user group that conducts a large annual meeting and numerous specialised meetings throughout the year,” he adds. Apart from the vast experience in both the manufacturing and field service industries, the Exel team presents a product with wide-ranging functionality, thereby allowing companies to implement a single solution across their business without the need for integration to other solutions or duplication of data.
Illustrating the robust capabilities of Exel, Dilhe cites a customer success story which involved Gripple, a Sheffield-headquartered manufacturer of wire joining, tensioning, and suspension products. The client first implemented Exel’s EFACS ERP solution in the mid-1990s, partially upgrading and extending it in the mid-2000s. By 2013, it was clear that Gripple’s business was outgrowing the capabilities of the system. The company sought ease of customisation and improved workflow while retaining the single master database, touchscreen interfaces, better capacity planning, and business intelligence dashboards. Gripple soon realised that their best option was to stay with Exel. In 2015, Gripple upgraded to the latest EFACS E/8 version. In less than a year, the new system had seamlessly integrated with the client’s workflow, delivering higher stability and optimised its business prospects. The new solution also allowed the client to move away from static reporting to Microsoft Power BI dashboards.
The key aspect that has kept Exel relevant and at the top of their game is their ability to adapt and evolve with changing times. As the coronavirus pandemic is disrupting business processes, Dilhe reckons that with the right technology and equipment, companies can easily augment the efficiency of remote workflow. Exel is providing remote consultancy, training, and configuration to assist organisations in quickly adapting to the situation. Driven by unparalleled versatility and innovation, Exel is set to establish itself as the leading solutions provider in Europe in the coming years.
